Hello all.
The annual End of Year Break-up BBQ for Cubs, Scouts, Leaders and their families is on again!
What better way to end the year with a BBQ and a few drinks together while the kids have fun in the Scout Hall and surrounding parklands!
There will be cordial, water and tea/coffee available, however no alcohol will be sold at the function. Please BYO.
Cubs and Scouts will each receive a small gift to help build their kit.
Please RSVP by 1 December to paulie.ferrari@bigpond.com with numbers and any dietary requirements.

Hampers
As in past years we are looking for donations of items to make up small hampers to raffle on the night. If you have anything you wish to donate, please drop them in the tubs that will be on the counter in the hall during Scout and Cub nights.
Feeling culinary?
We alwyas welcome helpers with the offer to cook, prep or just help out before and on the day. Please let me know (paulie.ferrari@bigpond.com)if you can help out or bring a plate (salads always go well).

Bunnings BBQ Fundraiser - How did we go?
What a huge weekend!
In 2 weeks we managed to schedule and turnaround a full bbq set up for Sunday 27 September at the Coburg store.
Firstly a big thanks to Andrew Murray, Antonio Cammarano, Tim Sutherland , Connie Tuddenham, Rachel McMahon and Lorraine Ferrari for doing shifts with many doing 4 or more hours each to keep the sausages flying out the door!
We grossed over $2500 selling about 900 snags (that's 85kg of sausages, 55 loaves of bread, 25kg of onion and a load of sauces) and around 150 drinks. A few dashes to the local shops to replenish stocks were needed. Our nett profit was over $1850.
Well done everyone in helping us make this happen on such short notice. This is $1850 we wouldn't have raised a month ago so the effort was well worth it!
Well done!

Scout participant from Coburg was Laughlan who joined up with members from 1st Coburg, 1st Oak Park & 1st Woori Yallock forming the The Radical Red Hawks Patrol! It was a great joint effort earning each group a Silver award flag to take back to their hall.
The activities were in the theme of commemorating 100yrs of ANZACS, including:
- constructing a catapult,
- cooking ANZAC biscuits in a firepit,
- using navigation techniques to make ground signals to direct overhead planes,
- planning for a soldier hike with pack weight limits in ounces and pounds,
- First Aid Injured soldier scenario, first aid quiz, and
- finally a safe or dangerous items memory test assessment.
A great day of learning or building on their own knowledge to earn skills badges!
Liz and I were both there assisting in assessing patrols in their First Aid knowledge and we learned a thing or 2 about the day as well!

Late Notice Opportunity for our Group - Bunnings BBQ on Sunday 27 September 2015
Hi everyone.
Our contact at Bunnings Coburg rang me just recently to offer our group the chance to take on a late cancellation from another community group.
I acknowledge that this is short notice, however it is a chance to raise some more funds for the group over and above what we were expecting.
We will need to run the roster between 8am - 4pm (or 7:30 - 4:30 with start up and cleanup).
Lorraine and I will be there for most of the day where possible as we are close by
If you can help out can you call me on 0403 812 215, or email me at paulie.ferrari@bigpond.com with your offers to help out, including times you are available on the day.

The following Parent Committee roles were filled for 2016:
- President - Paul Ferrari

- Quartermaster - Andrew Murray
Welcome to Georgia and Andrew in their new committee roles.
We currently have the position of Secretary vacant. I will carry out these responsibilities pending confirmation of a nomination to this role. Also anyone wishing to step up and help with fundraising,, we would value your services.
A big thanks to outgoing committee members over the past year for their contribution to the success of our Group:

- Assistant Treasurer - Carmelina Gangemi
Finally, a few changes that I have foreshadowed for 2016 to help make parent's contributions to the committee easier and more accessible. Subject to endorsement they include quarterly committee meetings & reporting, and the ability for parents to attend committee meetings via teleconference.
I propose to call a Parent's Committee meeting to put these changes up for Thursday 10 September 2015 from 7pm at the Scout Hall.
Until then, I welcome your thoughts on any of the above items, including any offers to fill vacant committee positions.

Bunnings BBQ 7 June 2015 - CAN YOU HELP?
Hi everyone.
Last Wednesday night I asked parents present if they could help out for the upcoming Bunnings Coburg BBQ on Sunday 7 June 2015. The BBQ is on 8am -4pm
Thanks to all the parents who offered and signed up - BUT WE NEED MORE HELPERS.
Can you please reply to me by Friday 8 May if you can help out during this fundraiser, including times you can assist. My email is paulie.ferrari@bigpond.com.
Even 2 hours will make a huge difference
It's vital that we have enough people to staff this stall at Bunnings BBQ's as we only get two shots at it each year and if we don't have the people, we may need to share with another community group or worse cancel our booking.
We really need your support.

Scouts Update
Upcoming events for scouts will be:
- 14/3-15/3 District Hike. I have been looking at a section of the Surfcoast trails which will involve 1 day of about 12 kms and next day about 11 kms. I waiting for input from the other scout leaders before deciding. This hike will award Pioneer level and Explorer level.
- Stradbroke Cup (competition camping). Held at Easter I have spoken to Paul from 1st Oak Park about a joint troop. There is different venues for this so we are yet to decide. This camp provides scouts with an opportunity to achieve 4 consecutive nights under canvas which is mandatory for application for the next Jamboree which will be in NSW Jan 2016.
- We have offered the scouts a night out on one of the meetings in the 1st term and awaiting their ideas as where to go. Things like bowling, visit to police station, indoor rock climbing etc.
We would really like to have some parents stay on Wednesdays to help out. Minimum requirement is Working With children Check and registered as an official Adult helper. If you do ,you can wear a group scarf on the night. As well as meetings, adult helpers can come to camps.
Also we require scouts to be signed in on arrival to the hall and as it was at Oak Park and please bring a small back pack with basic water bottle, sunblock, hat, raincoat etc.
Cheers John and Liz

Welcome to 2015!
Happy New Year to all our Scouts, Cubs and Parents and
friends.
The Festive Season is over and it’s time to don the shirts
and woggles for another great year of adventure!
But before we all kick off the year, we have a few very
important announcements.
Scouts
The Scout Troop will be returning to the 1st
Coburg Scout Hall in Carr Street from Wednesday night 4th February.
John our District Scout leader has graciously stepped in to
help us out in the 1st and 2nd Term.
Liz will join John to do her training as an assistant leader
with John lending his skills in bringing Liz up to speed. Thanks to John
& Liz!
Sadly Rebecca has won’t be coming back to 1st
Coburg and will stay on at Oak Pak assisting their Scout Leader, Paul.
Thanks for your help and all the best to you Rebecca.
Whilst we are sad to see Rebecca move on, we can’t wait to
see the 1st Coburg Scout Troop returning home.
Cubs
The pack will kick off on Thursday night 12th
February with Tom and Antonio. I hear a great year awaits our ever growing Cub
Pack!
Special Parent’s
Meeting
There will be a special Parent meeting on the 12th
February to discuss the move of the Scout Troop back to Carr Street, including
what support we can give John & Liz in the move back.
Please put this in your diary as this meeting is IMPORTANT
for the ongoing success of our Scout Group.
Meeting will be at the Carr St hall at 7.00 pm.
Bunnings BBQ
Our first BBQ fundraiser for 2015 is at Bunnings Coburg
(Lincoln Mills Homemaker Centre, Gaffney Street) on Saturday 7th February
from 8am.
Thanks to everyone who has signed up to help out on the day.
We will be in contact shortly to confirm the roster with volunteers.
If you can pop by to buy a sausage and a drink, say hello or
even point your family & friends to this great fundraiser, every bit helps!
Thanks again for everyone’s support, I look forward to
saying g’day to as many of you over the coming months.
